Reaching Durham with the Gospel of Christ

Our Covenant to One Another

Having been led by the grace of God to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and having been baptized upon our profession of faith, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, relying on His gracious aid, solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  We will rejoice at each other’s happiness and endeavor with tenderness and sympathy to bear one another’s burdens and sorrows.

We will, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, walk together in brotherly love, exercise an affectionate care and watchfulness over each other, and faithfully encourage, exhort, and admonish one another.

We will, unless providentially hindered, not forsake the assembling of ourselves together but will participate in using our spiritual gifts for the edifying of the body.

We will faithfully remember one another in prayer, help each other in times of sickness and distress, and cultivate compassion and courtesy.

We will endeavor to bring up those that at any time are under our care in the teachings and instructions of the Lord and by a pure and loving example seek the salvation of our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and acquaintances.

We will seek, by Divine aid, to live carefully, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, to fulfill our calling to lead a holy life, and to be salt and light in the world.

We will work together for the continuance of a faithful, Biblical ministry in this church as we sustain its worship, ordinances, doctrines, and discipline.  We will contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We will be just and honest in our dealings and faithful in our responsibilities and commitments.  We will seek to avoid all gossip, unkind remarks, and unnecessary anger.  We will think the best of others, be slow to take offense but always be ready for reconciliation with a heart of meekness and forgiveness.

We will, if the providence of God should desire us to move from this place, diligently seek to unite with another church of like faith, where we can continue to carry out the spirit and principles of God’s Word
